Reccomend me a suspension fork

Looking at getting a suspension fork of some type for my montage....
Alot of the trails and things round here are pretty rutted hard pack clay, And it doesnt make for a nice riding expierience.
The only time its nice , Is that sloshy bit between spring and summer...
Then when the sun beats down on it in the summer its solid again :roll:

At the moment i dont have a single bike with suspension, And my last one was a KONA NUNU i had for a while...
I dont want huge travel or a bouncy ride, Just something to take the edge off. I was thinking a flexistem but decided its not realy worth it....

What (if there are any) period fork would suit this? Bear in mind im a raleigh nut so im not gonna ditch this and buy something allready suss equipped :lol:

Even though it's not a high-end bike it'd be a shame to upset the balance on this one. I'd leave as is. The frame isn't made for any modern forks anyway, and even with an older fork you'll be pushing the front end up and you've not got a lot of clearance to the top tube as it is.
 
don't touch it, its a classic, reminds me of my raleigh memphis, but if you have to, some nice retro quadra 24s, 10s are rubbish, but anything retro you can get in good condition, didn't rock shock make an mint green fork a couple years ago, maybee mint sauce could help you.
 
Look for some low end forks Elastomer forks. Quarda's for example.
The elastomers are good for the low travel bumps, but where not so good when it came to the bigger bumps.

The MAGs while they tried, really are for rutty type of stuff and tend to leave your tyres to take off the small ripples in the track.



Look at the 1994 review of suspension forks in the Archive, if you cannot find it then give a quick shout. They will all be fine on it, but it'll give you ideas.
Still think Quadra's would have been a possible cheap and chearful 'upgrade' for it.
 
Comfier grips and less air in your front tyre.

IIRC this is a 501 frame so forks are probably boneshaking Hi-ten and is that a steel handlebar I can see? Neither of which help in the comfort department.

yeah its a 501, the bars are the original raleigh 501 steel bars too (they are going to be changed regardless as they are useless)

The grips i find quite nice, I had some ritchey foams on it, then some kona jackshit grips, but went and bought some more ritcheys as they just feel better..

The tyres are different now anyways. Got some 1.95 wide michelin tiaga's on it. Which are realy realy nice supprisingly....

I used to run the front a little lower, but i ride TO most of my trails, instead of using the car... so its all well and good letting it down at the woods, But then riding it home on the road becomes a bit bit of a chore...
That said, Im guessing having a slightly lower psi front is probably similar in energy loss to having a susser front end anyway?
 
How about a flexstem? Could eliminate the "buzz" and keep the geometry etc.

Never used one myself mind, I hear they take some getting used to.

Precisely. Unless you have a lockout fork but geometry on most is all wrong for your frame, plus you'd need to get new headset, stem etc.. Not worth the trouble.
