Rear V-Brake Noodle advice (96 GT Zaskar)

Corbet2000

Retro Newbie
I'm looking for some advice for the best length/degree of V Brake noodle for my 96 GT Zaskar and where I could buy one from.

The standard 90 degree shimano one seems to extend too far and the heel can catch it while pedaling, plus the length and angle doesn't make for a crisp braking action. I've heard there are shorter as well as adjustable ones available.

Can anyone help, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Stevie.

i've got an avid one that's pretty short, but i'm using it

you could cut one down?

Thanks cce.

Yes I've thought about bringing out the hacksaw. The local bike shop seems to think that there are shorter rear v-brake noodles available, as an alternative to the standard 90 degree...I certainly can't find any online.

I've seen differing angles and lengths recently - but can't remember where  . I will have looked at the usual suspects CRC, Wiggle, Merlin, Parkers and Ribble. Try them.

New boots are tricky to find in stock at the moment. I found Dia Compe ones (again at one of the above online stores)- much nicer than Shimano's offerings!

135 deg. Shmoo noodles are readily available. You can see one on the rear of my DK.

Nice example you have there FMJ.

Isn't the 135 degree noodle specifically for the front VBrake (90 degree for the rear)? Have you used the 135 on the rear, it does look as though it does the job?

Over here everyone but us moto heads uses 90s for the front coming off the left lever. You need the 135 for the proper cable routing if you're running the front off the "right" lever.

Aha, got it now.

I'll use the 135 degree noodle and route the rear outer cable to the right of the seat tube just like you have in your picture.

Currently I'm using a 90 degree noodle routed to the left of the seat tube which caused the heel catching and sponge like braking.

I would imagine other GT owners coming across this problem, maybe it's too obvious. Thanks for bearing with me FMJ, much appreciated.
