I am tearing down one of my Yeti bikes to have it powder coated by a place down the road called Spectrum. Can anyone give me some advice about removing the rear shock? It looks like I need a special tool to get the bottom "cap" unscrewed? Thanks for any help you all can provide.

Yeti ARC-AS Rear Risse Shock Removal Help

Better picture.... The shock is in good condition. It looks like it takes a special Risse spanner for the lower "cap." Then the whole assembly could be unthreaded out of the stays? No person at Yeti knew about it.

Try Josh at Risse, and send pictures. The guy is a whiz. I think if need be, you could send the strut with shock to him for evaluation.

Excellent, I have never seen anything like that either.

I recall that you remove from bottom screwing it out of the housing and slide it out! oh yes removing the valve 1st

bump.

Kevin at Risse said to send it in and they will remove the shock. I still need the tool, though. Now I am having trouble getting the chainstays off. Just unscrewing the allen bolt doesn't seem to be the way? Anybody have any suggestions?

Also, I guess it is time to get out the drill and remove the cable guides?

Pics below. Any suggestions are appreciated. This is my first time dealing with any rear suspension as I have been sworn to only ride hard tails until recently. Many thanks.

Have you tried all the different types of bottom bracket spanners, for old school cup 'n cone jobbies may fit.

Looks like a great project for a DIY lather, chunk of larger diameter bar, four pack of Stella, that micrometer out of last years christmas cracker and a "Ground Force" style can do attitude.

Jobs a good un!!!

Looking at the photos provided I can't see any real reason why you would want to have it powder coated, and hence I wouldn't bother pulling it apart.
