Hey folks, can anyone tell me the procedure with pulling a rear QR axle Hope Mk 1 Big Un hub apart for full servicing including the required tools please? Admittedly I did email Hope to see if they do the odd refurb and was, quite unsuprisingly told that they don't! So it's down to me...... can anyone help please?

Thank you,

Lee.

There aren’t actually any tools. Unscrew the end caps and the rest need a good push through. Can use a bearing puller but I just knocked out with a bar internally. Google should have step by step if you need it

Hope have long stopped supporting these bearing in mind they’re about 25 years old

Sadly not having much success here. All the Hope YT videos on later rear hubs are saying after removing the freehub body whack the axle through with a soft mallet... tried that, no dice.

Any idea how I remove the non-driveside anodised end-cap from the axle? Tried a soft vice and pulled but again, no luck.

I've officially given up having been whacking the axle with a big bloody rubber mallet and nothing shifting. Have to say those hubs are built like tanks, seriously impressed!

Moving to plan B with other type of hubs for the Metalhead.

It's easy to imagine: I took the freehub body off easy enough then put the hub side up on a wooden vice, with the axle area in-between. Then whacked the axle several times on each end, and not a single bit of movement. This is copying exactly what Hope themselves do in their YT videos on later rear hubs.

Then, wrapped fabric around the non-driveside end cap, clamped on a monkey wrench and levered to try to get it off the end.... to no movement whatsoever.
