My dads place gets no digital freeview signal at all, nothing, even with the biggest ariel and boosters, nothing (1/2 mile up the road you can). He is in a dip but does get analogue. He has Sky in the main room, but when analogue is switched off in Novemeber, he'll get nothing in the kitchen or upstairs other than whatever is on in the main room throught the sky sender.

So his only option is to get extra sky boxes with lots of extra ££££... stupid.

when analogue is switched off and the primary reason for turning it off (well ok behind cost) is so they can boost the digital signal to full power, currently it's broadcast at a low power so not to interfere with analogue signals.

He may well get a proper signal then.

Most of our town (and the bit I live in) is in the bottom of a twisting steep sided wooded valley. This means we have no TV signal or digital radio signal. Now it doesn't bother me as I watch very little TV but we had no choice than to get Sky. Now they are a bunch of W.,,:/ers too. Part of the package I pay for is a phone line and Broadband (which you need for Sky Plus). We had Sky installed in March and despite dozens of calls we still have no phone line. I have spent ages on hold whilst the tech team pass me from pillar to post. I have just given up trying to get it sorted.

You'd need BT to install the line first?

yep he has that already, the one through the arial that you can change channels with also, but everyone has to watch the same channel, so someone can't watch BBC1 in the lounge and the other Dave or something in the kitchen without getting another box and all the hastle with extra cables etc.

I suppose it's a case of wait and see what happens when analogue is turned off if the digital signal will creep in over the hill as Fluffy says.

Tap the postcode in to here http://www.ukfree.tv/starthere.php on the left. and you'll get signal strength for the location (approx of course).
It will also tell you if you need to change your (sky, video etc) RF output to another channel to stop it causing interference on the freeview boxes if you route it to spread it around the house that way.

For me I have 3 MUX's on very low, and I'm right next to a large city ffs hence the drop outs in poor weather or very hot weather.
But in just over a year and a half when it switches over this happens
Freeview power increase from 9,667 W to 116,667 W, 12 times stronger

The area has digital fine, it's specifically is a 1/2 mile radius around the house that doesn't as it's in a dip, there isn't even any mobile phone reception except on Vodafone in very very very specific locations, like top of the drive on the right, or front door hold it up to the top of the door frame or left side of the dining room window.... er think that's it

There is analogue reception at the moment and no digital whatsoever, just a tiny bar on the signal meter, that's why i'm hoping what you say is right when the digital is boosted it might work then.

His area switches over in November, so he has to wait another year and a half to get full power :?
