Re-cutting/Boring out a stem! Is this possible ??

there are conical and not conical reamers.
the ONE not conical Reamer I have (26-29.5mm) has paid itself long time ago...

Reamers produce conical holes, not cylindrical ones. Maybe infinitesimaly conical in the case of those reamers you linked to, but conical nonetheless.

Pardon? Have you any documented proof of this statement?

No. The reamers I'm familiar with produce conical holes. I jumped to the illogical conclusion that all reamers do so. Glad to be corrected..

Reamers wouldnt make sense if it would be this way.
I know conical Reamers for example to use with oldtimer's steering knuckles, which were adjustable in a way.

This is the Dealer I bought mine from
http://www.ebay.de/itm/VERSTELLBARE-REI ... 4856b7eb7a
size I have isn't available anymore. That's why I meant ~80 for a set of 11 is pretty cheap - even when shipping is 60$.

A bit of an update! The seller of the stem has quite a few 600ax stems and is to look
if he has a 26mm stem, if he has he'll swap them which is good news for me, but if he
hasn't then I'll be visiting the engineering company and report back to their conclusion.

Bloody bikes and bloody stupid gorgeous looking oval aero bars !!!

Don't you just love conkering a problem and wouldn't be possible without tips and advise from you lot

I can believe that. "Bicycle" and "26-29.5mm reamer" sounds like a marriage made in heaven..
Do you need a lathe or pillar-drill or some such thing to use it, or can it be used by hand/powered by hand? Your mention of "oldtimer's steering knuckles", if I am translating it correctly, suggests that this reamer of yours is, unlike them, a power-tool, requiring accurate centres and secure clamping for the work-piece?

That would be the most elegant solution.. :) The stems aren't as rare as the bars then...

The shimano stems was readily available back then and still are now, the seller of the stems bought a job lot
from a Belgium bike shop some years ago but it seems most are 25.4mm which was for the likes of Cinelli bars,
so the 26mm version is as rare as the bloody bars! If you could see the bars for yourself you would be amazed on
how they look! The tops have an oval aero profile and the drops point out slightly and the ends of the bars are
cut at an angle, then the aero end caps fit over them, pretty futuristic to think they came out in the very early 80's.

The only bikes I've seen with these crazy bars fitted as standard the Nishiki Aero and my RRA12
but I guess some folk got the bars and fitted them to their own frame-set.

Back at that bloody stem! I've gone cross eyed looking for a 26mm 110mm version! a few 80/90mm versions but no 110mm versions

Ian,

If you are going with the engineering solution, are you wise using an NOS NIB stem? Maybe worth thinking about that.
