Raphael Geminiani - NOW SOLD

Re:

Thanks CTK. And you're correct of course. It may be anywhere from 27.0 to 27.4 depending on the tube set. I have just remeasured the seat pin, using a proper micrometer this time (instead of 2 engineer's squares and a ruler!) and it's a tad over 27mm in fact.

So I am now ready to believe the 531 label (remnant) that was on the seat tube when I bought the bike. Now that's cheered me up a bit...

My Peugeot 531 Altus is 26.4

Well, that just goes to show! What it shows I'm not sure - I guess that 531 came in many guises... How old is your Altus? My old thing is around 1970 I think.

26.4 is pretty common for a 531 frame, a lot of Raleigh's had 26.4 seat tubes as its all to do with which flavour of 531 tube set you've got i.e whether its single butted, double butted etc etc. And different frame builders would ream the seat tube opening at different sizes. Not all 531's are equal.

If you google it there's quite a lot of info and few tube set charts that give you all the dimensions

Sorry for the late reply - mine is from 1990

frame note -

constructed with Agrati lug pattern "AM" ART. 000.8040/U

the bulge-formed head is Agrati item N. 000.8046

seat lug Agrati item N. 005.8049

bottom bracket shell Agrati item N. 000.8507

fork crown Agrati item N. 001.8518

dropouts Agrati item N. 000.8002

forkends Agrati item N. 000.8010

manufacturer appears Chiorda

saddle pillar diameter is a piece of information which does not "fit" with the Reynolds transfer, 26.0mm on an Italian frame is consistent with hi-tensile, quality plain gauge would be 26.2mm or 26.4mm

would expect frame to have been constructed with hi-tensile tubing, unlikely it was even quality plain gauge, the combination of bulge-formed head, bullet seat stays and stamped ends without hanger is strongly suggestive of a base model frame from this maker

if it were not now sold but still to hand you would be able to view the seams on the interior of the four frame tubes visible in the bottom bracket shell

tubing transfer - note the smear of adhesive residue/sealer surrounding it - if original this would not be there. transfer may have been lifted from elsewhere and reused.

Geminiani cycles -

as stated above the overwhelming majority produced in France

there never was a Geminiani bicycle co. per se - all the cycles bearing the name license built

the more ordinary models such as the 1000 & 1500 were all/nearly all done by MICMO

when one gets into the quality models there were several producers including Cizeron
