Raleigh Frame NOS 753 Reynolds

My 753 SBDU is 26.8. Some were 27.0 depending on the size of the frame I think.

The later tubesets i.e. 753R and T were imperial sized and took 27.2 or 27.4mm seatposts

but to ask for the provenance of the frame is in my book a reasonable request bearing in mind what is being asked and if the chap is honest and above board, which the angels of my better self feels is the case....he won't mind giving the information....but pardon my ignorance what is the problem in putting the SBDU number of the frame in the public domain....am i missing something....if so, please explain.

Well put my V bomber bro, I did some time back want to start an SBDU Register, but met with the same resistance with regard to revealing frame numbers - make me wonder how many"clones"out there? Cloning classic cars v.common stateside, so why not bike frames.

I once ran a Register for a well known classic car club and the members had no issues with giving me their chassis numbers - same thing. How could a Register be compiled otherwise?

Same with Hetchins: I and many others have no problem providing our frame numbers to Len Ingram.

Roadking.

one thing that interests me is that I get the feeling SBDU were custom built only. Well I certainly remember the frames such as this one being stock items - Tony butterworths in sheffield had plenty around this time - some were gold, some were silver and they were either road, TT or track models, all with different dropouts and drillings.
But, the query I have is that given these were stock and therefore not SBDU, how did they get the 753 licence? I Thought GOD (I wonder if his parents thought hard to give him those initials) was the founder of the 753 licence and wouldnt have wanted it to go the general raleigh factory. Questions, questions, perhaps RK as an insider might know

Well worth joining if you're at all interested in the SBDU, RoadKing - there is list of frame numbers on there, a great collection of resource material, etc.

Also I won't link to it but there is a great collection of photographs of an early SBDU Time Trial Special in the same livery as the frame for sale here, on Flickr. (I was outbid on ebay on this bike, but it probably went to a more worthy person!)

Thanks guys, am aware of the SBDU group...my interest and knowledge was originally limited to the fact that I ordered an SBDU frame in 1985 from GO'D at Ilkeston (rather from a Raleigh dealer).

Living in Surrey at this time meant I had many many framebuilders to choose from, but having been a follower of the TdF as a schoolboy it was the SBDU palmares that swung it.

BITD (mid 1980s) not many cyclists were aware of the SBDU, so it was exclusive too. Mine is built in 531Pro, which GO'D advised as my build at the time was more track/rugby player (I did play rugby). It turns out mine was one of the last made in that tubeset (GO'D told me this when I collected the frameset).

However, in recent times I have published a couple of pieces on the SBDU.

We've gone way off topic, this is a sale thread, so my apologies to the seller, but it just goes to show how much interest there is in the SBDU.
