Raleigh Frame NOS 753 Reynolds

interesting thread ... first I'm going to have to backtrack and apologise. I dont see the seller touting this as SBDU - it was me who made this assumption and others commented on it.
second, nick states the frame No. as being 4xxxx. I cant see where the seller tells us this ??

no

Dont think the numbers a state secret,I just asked the owner about the number and he was very forthcoming and told me it was SB 4***(not my place to reveal all the number). He assures me its new not restored,i have no reason to disbeleive him, seems a genuine guy.

Final comment.

Frame number has not been made public by seller, and whilst he has not said it is an SBDU the very fact he wants 900Es for it is, by implication,"touting"it as exactly that.

Call me fussy, pedantic, accurate, whatever - here's the front cover of my SBDU catalogue, how about a little quiz on the rider's depicted?

Perhaps I'm being tetchy having had an awful bug for the last week or so.

Finis.

Roadking.

FWIW

I bought a 753 exactly like this (differrent size tho) secondhand in June 1980 (for £100 !) from my LBS, so the I can vouch for the frame colour, and decals, and looks like same lugs etc that mine had.

I believe the frame was built for some local up and coming junior rider (whose name I forget).I had it srpayed in team livery at Mercians and stupidly sold it in the Sept to some guy from Basingstoke for £175.

In 1985 I had 'GOD' come to my house.....................I'd bought a Campag equipped team bike , but they'd used loctite to put the BB cups in and when I came to service the BB I couldn't get them out. I got onto Raliegh....and who shoul turn up at my mums house with his mate but the man himself !

Philippe,

Can you update the thread with information you provide through PM to other members. We want as much as possible trading happening in the open. Thank you.

Roadking,

That looks like Belgium's Eric Vanderaerden ahead of Kelly in the main inset, there's also a side shot of Hinault's head and Phil Anderson.

I'll leave the others for now... 8). All cycling greats.

When i was younger...i used to frequent EG Bates cycles in Plaistow east London and they had quite a lot of stock SBDU frames in 753, 531SL and 531d/b...all in red and black livery.

As someone said this thread is going off topic....so might be best if the owner were allowed to start it again fresh....with this interesting but from his point of view distracting debate....i appreciate the difficulty in striking a balance between the rights of the seller and the desire of a the buyer to know they are getting what is being advertised and i am in no way making any allegations that the frame is not what it being described as...a NOS SBDU 753 is far from inconceivable....look at all the undiscovered Rembrandt or Van Gogh painting that turn up.....but to ask for the provenance of the frame is in my book a reasonable request bearing in mind what is being asked and if the chap is honest and above board, which the angels of my better self feels is the case....he won't mind giving the information....but pardon my ignorance what is the problem in putting the SBDU number of the frame in the public domain....am i missing something....if so, please explain.
