Well heading towards 45 i'm going to finally race my bike this year. Been threatening it since I got into mtb's but never committed :?:
To the point I started looking at modern high bikes because i'll need one right?? and then it dawned on me why don't I run what I've brung?
Got a kona firemountain and ebay just sent me a dyna tech m700
The dyna tech is the bike I would have probably raced way back then.
Anyone raced their older bike against modern steeds?

Re:

Yup, 24 hours solo on a 1990 Cinder Cone at Mountain Mayhem 2014, well I did slack off overnight for a bit of kip :D ~50th out of 200 riders entered so not bad on a bike nearing it's 25th birthday.

Retro racing is cool simply because you have nothing to prove!

At least it'll be a good story.

Maybe with a montage for good measure...

Don't mention the montages – that's all my editor can think of: "dial 'M' for montage".

Splatter-respect man :)

That's what I've realised, the whole thing will an even better blast on an older bike.

The hours approaching, just give it your best
You've got to reach your prime.
That's when you need to put yourself to the test,
And show us a passage of time,
We're gonna need a montage (montage)
Oh it takes a montage (montage)

Show a lot of things happing at once,
Remind everyone of what's going on (what's going on?)
And with every shot you show a little improvement
To show it all would take to long
That's called a montage (montage)
Oh we want montage (montage)

And anything that we want to go from just a beginner to a pro,
You need a montage (montage)
Even Rocky had a montage (montage)

(Montage,montage)

Anything that we want to go from just a beginner to a pro,
You need a montage (montage)
Oh it takes a montage (montage)

Always fade out in a montage,
If you fade out, it seem like more time
Has passed in a montage,
Montage

Re:

What sort of racing do you have in mind?

You'll probably find the usual bike snobs who'll scoff at your ancient and out of date bike, just make sure you eat plenty of pre-race beans and give them something to chew on as you overtake them

I raced my 1997 Proflex, bought it on the Saturday, raced it on the Sunday! And I wasn't last! :D
The look on some folks face is absolutely priceless as you sail past them on your £200 retrobike whilst they struggle to get their £2500 Enduro-matic-All-Mountain "rig" up the slightest of inclines. :D

Cyclo-cross would be a good one for a retro-bike, most courses would suit it, and races are typically an hour long.
