Proflex 552 - worth saving ?

Hi all

Might be able to pick one up cheap

Looks in reasonable nick , seller says all original. Full LX group set.

Got girvin suspension forks apparently ?

The elastomer doughnut on the back scares me , no doubt it will be finished. Are these still available , can you get pattern parts ? Same with the forks.

I need another project bike like I need a hole in the head but this is local and looks to be a survivor

Re:

I like Proflex, but the elastomers can be a headache when they inevitably deteriorate, and the same goes for the ones on the Vector fork too.

Search on here, there was a thread just the other day regarding retro-fit elastomers for the earlier Proflex bikes.
But suspensionforkparts.net should do new elastomers for the Vector forks.

As to whether it's worth it... it depends what the asking price is, but full LX groupset and Vector forks would get my interest right away. If it's in reasonable condition then a solution to the elastomer issue can be found, it just takes time & patience.

Re:

Thanks for that . :)

It appears that suspensionforkparts does the rear elastomer and the fork ones ! Happy days , they aren't cheap though

Chap wants £100 but will listen to an offer , it's on eBay , no secret but it's literally just down the road from me.

What do you think ?

I've got four unfinished bikes in the garage already
