Just brought a Pro-Flex and wondered if anyone out there could tell me a little about their numbering?

Mine is an 852, what does that mean? What was the model line up?

When did they ditch the Flexstem is favour of Vectors? Oh, and did they ever use other forks?

Finally, what frame materials did they use.....and what is mine?

I dont like having a bike and not knowing about it!

Cheers all 8)

Ps: any pics of an 852 or similar? I am in talks with Gil on decals, and would like to know what I need and where they go. Thanks :D

last digit is the year so your is a 1992 .
there is a proflex forum somewhere , ask orange71 .

I had an 852 just like yours, bought it new BITD, the 552 was blue with LX, the 752 was red with DX and the grey/silver 852 like yours was XT, there was a top drawer 952 (same colour as the 852) with XTR/XT mix, flexstem was standard issue on all but the 952 i think, Vectors were available in 92, Girvin also did conventional style forks.

They were stickered as Offroad in 92, there was Offroad in a black outline style at the front of the top tube and the number sticker at the rear of the top tube, no stickers at all on the downtube in 92, the chainstays on your bike should be silver (lighter than the main frame though which looks to be the close to the correct titanium grey/silver) with a small Proflex sticker and a scientific formula style thing :D , seatstays are the correct black.

I'm sure frame material is Easton of some kind, if that one you have had have been a 16 inch i'd have jumped at it, i'm looking for one but they always seem to be 18" :(

5 = Bob Girvin's favourite number (at least that's the story I heard!).

Yes mate you need to join the Proflex forum - loads of us from here over there - loads of well informed people to help with those tricky Proflex questions. Oh, and I'm going to be the Administrator there soon
