Always been jealous of the old Ritchey's with TA Specialties cranks, & the brake parts commonly associated with those. They just look great compared to the newer (still old) Takagi Tourney XT cranks & 1st year shimano bits. Finally found a donor bike with the parts I needed. I'll update as I go, but anyway... I've just started using Mother's polish rather than brasso & another polish I had laying around. Really with I would have bought a tub of Mothers earlier. Twice the shine in half the time... Maybe I should get into advertising?

Installed,

Now time to polish some Mafac tandem brakes, install new pads, Tomaselli Racer levers & some Oakley 3 grips for proper eraly 80's street cred.

Re:

Thanks, she's my baby. That's the original color, original paint. Prior to replacing the crank everything is original aside from grips, tires, cables and housing. The seat and post I think pre date the bike, mid to late 70's.

The parts I'm installing follow the higher end 83 competition build and older 82 Everest. Mainly for looks, adds a bit more old school look.

Finally had a few hours to play around

Polished up the brakes & installed new pads. Figured I was home free and could move onto installing the proper straddle cables & hangers... but of course something came up.

For whatever reason the front driveside brake post is .15mm larger towards the end. It won't allow the Mafac brakes to slide on, so I'll be spending the rest of my free time tonight with a scotchbrite pad removing material... Good times.

Also I read that Charles Kelly was building these bikes in the shop that Gary Fisher had prior to launching his own brand. Mr Kelly said that they would have to trim the pads and pad body in order to allow for front wheel removal as the standard length mafac pads were to long and wouldn't clear the fork legs... Also as issue I'll have to address at some point.

I do like the way they look so far though, just what I was looking for.

Re:

Got the front brakes on, tip of the brake post was just a little mushroomed.

Now I'll have to figure out a nice clean way to cut the front pads down like they did back in the day.

Just what I wanted to do to a set of new pads and polished pad holders...

Going to replace the brake cables with some 2mm vintage cables. I'll have to re run the cables anyway to install the tomaselli racer levers. With the dust boots and adjuster cover it's a bit more work.

So much for getting it done quickly.

Was lucky that the stock 130mm axle clears the stays with the new cranks. Just enough to get by.

Slowly moving forward. Found some old school 2mm brake cables to replace the thinner new ones I had before. Bought some Mafac cable hangers, and I had to drill them out to fit the larger cables. Still waiting on getting enough courage to cut the front pads, but now that the rears are done it'll be soon.
