part 2 ---Stripping the second Peugeot

This is nice....It's my kind of bike

I thought these needed some attention - and now she's down to the frame...

the bars heavily rusted. Sized at 40cm, i'll see if they're a better size for me than the 36cm on the Loire - which feel a little cramped - then to be replaced - without the 'dual' levers.!

Yup, that's pretty much like my Premiere hack. Same heavily rusted bars, now replaced with half decent ones. Same corrosion, knackered wheels etc. I've done most of what needs to be done to fix it up, but the thing still rides like a shed.

Sorry, maybe that first post sounded a bit harsh... Hope yours turns out to be a fantastic, responsive ride... My Premiere may just be a Vendredi apres midi example! All the best with your rebuild.

not harsh at all - had a good laugh

just waiting for the wheels - i have new tyres, saddle - then adjust the brakes

and off into the wild blue yonder............

My dislike-hate-weird-attachment to my Premiere colours all posts relating to this particular model! I got the thing cheap and put loads of work into it, replacing all the crappy parts with semi-decent ones, tidying the wheels etc... And on the first long ride I made a right turn and the rear axle snapped on me.. pushed the beast home for 8 miles... I glared at it for at least 7.5 of those miles! So, not impartial enough maybe!


Incidentally, if you want a third Peugeot... !!!

a classic love/hate story.....

i have 3 now including the trek FX hybrid [shopper] - enough

the only one i would even consider now is a RED FRAME.......... ......

I still think it's an excellent project.

Yes, most bikes of that age will need some t-cut, ferecla, elbow grease... Or a complete paint removal and repaint. Personally I'd go witn the t-cut route, it doesn't look that bad.

How have you tried to remove the BB?
I remove the cranks, knock the lock ring off with a hammer, soak with plus gas/wd40 for a while, then stick the cups in a vice and turn the frame, always works


Fixable.... Absolutely

As for the bars, you could rough sand them and cover them in leather "almarc" style like I did with my galaxy a really good post on here on how to do it. Looks excellent with polished levers and new hoods.

Yeah, go for it, especially now you've got new wheels coming

haven't tried the BB yet
the axle doesn't rotate ...next job

out on the Loire this afternoon - 36cm bars definitely feeling cramped
so I did up the 40cm Premiere ones to try
yours look very professional - i used a thick 'cork' tape - not fancy - but it provides cushioning for the Dupuytren's Contracture in my left hand

so BB fix tomorrow whilst waiting for the courier...............john
