I think Ill leave the forks red, I like them. Maybe there was a reason it became red? Apart from the poorly applied decals the paint job on the forks is very good. It looks too good to be an enthusiastic amateur job .. ??

Sorted out the crank bolt problem too, it just needed a quick run through with a top to clear out crap.

The only thing I'm slightly concerned about is the clearance between the inner ring (44t) & the chain stay. It's 4mm. Is that ok?

Starting to take shape... Brake hoods, proper cable guides, sort out saddle / bar height, polish up the aluminium bits etc... to go; but went for a quick spin (Hence the pedals) & it felt great

check that the bb axle is in the right way. imagining that the bb shell is transparent for a moment, you should be able to "read" the shimano blurb on the axle when you're sitting on the bike looking down at it.

if this is ok then you might be able to fit a sturmey archer cog spacer or similar on the fixed cup side to bring the gear side out a bit. really, you need to get a 42t in there or a mavic 41t if you can still find such a thing! what a blessing corsa record was for us non climbers, when it came out with a 39t inner ring!

nae bother. i can remember having those kind of troubles back in the 80s as there were so many different axles and cranks being mismatched out there in road racing land. chainring rub was quite common and found frequently with sealed bb units especially.

ps sorry - i should have said "campag" instead of shimano when describing your bb axle! same theory tho'.

I did a 150 km spin yesterday & was really surprised how well it climbed, even with a 42/23 on digs up to 13%. Once you get it rolling momentum seems to keep it going Its a difrent style to modern lightweight bikes. I was even thinking about using the sbdu for a few flatter low priority races next year (If any race can be low-priority ), that's how impressed I was with it. Its so silky smooth & a joy to ride.

I was also very surprised that there was no sign of chain-ring rub, but I'm not happy to leave it as is though.
