paintstripping... need tips

Started stripping my Amplifier frame today. Coming along nicely except I have a problem scraping the damn paint out of the cable holders.

Any magic tips around?
Or just more paint stripper? Im using some Eco friendly stuff since nitromors isn't sold in iceland. It does behave in the same way as i have seen here on the forums.. Its jelly like and takes about 10-20mins to lift stuff of.

Nitromoors works in minutes.

The way I did a frame was to put loads into the hole, leave if for a while then wash out with a high pressure hosepipe. Although if your paint stripper isn't as good it might not work as well.

Bit of wet n dry wrapped around a small screw driver works wonders. Also good for taking surface rust out of allen bolt heads if done gently.

Had the same problem recentely. Just made sure they was copious amounts of nitromores shoved in them then left for a while.

Did the entire bike in nitromores though and it took 2 days. Not sure what Kona put on their bikes in 2005 but half of the paint seemed bulletproof.

Lots of Konas were powder coated, which is why the stuff was ghastly to get off. Typically they had a white powdercoat and a coloured clearcoat on top.

Also, whats the best way to prep the frame after stripping before I apply the acid etch primer? I want to make sure all the paintstripper is washed off.
Any special method or just water and soap?

Nitromors is rubbish these days since they had to follow an EC directive and take out the nasty (but effective) ingredient. You might find some good stuff at the back of the shelf in a shop somewhere.

As for Iceland, I guess it's just a matter of time and/or elbow grease!

Apply the stripper and leave it a good time. Then take a jetwash / power washer to it. Worked great for me just watch out when the stripper gets blasted about by the water; it still burns badly :D

Before paint I'd clean it with Isopropynol 99.9% alcohol or something from a bodyshop / paint supplier. Do not risk leaving anything there that will react and rise up through with the paint, after cleaning it leave it in a warm place for some hours.

I have painted items before and it has reacted to cleaner I'd used to clean the frame and not let dry properly (even though it looked dry).

Be careful with the acid etch, it'll hurt if you breathe too much of it.

Yes, strippers will burn you if you blast them with water.... And you will get thrown out of the bar aswell... :)

But yes, thanks for pointers :)

Anyone tried mixing neat household ammonia with vaseline? I noticed whilst using ammonia how useful it was at stripping paint- grrr. The vaseline just keeps the ammonia in place so it can concentrate of lifting the paint.
