Pace rebuild

Confessing more than a drop of jealousy at Andy.l's RC100 rebuild, coupled with being housebound for the forseeable future I've stripped my RC200f8. Completely. Needed it - some winter grime needed shifting, new cables and chain etc. All going well.

I've been running Avid Flakjackets - which are ace, but a little too red for my liking (even with a pewter and red thing going on). Discovered Transfil make a kit to turn any outers into sealed units a la flakjackets. Excellent at £5, and a nice subtle black to boot.

I've had to order a number of replacement bits. First off my lbs - no we don't stock them (9 speed DA/XTR chains) didn't instill confidence. So aforay onto the internet to Chain Reaction, Wiggle & Parker ensued.

All stock showed as in stock, all orders placed within minutes of each other and free postage option selected.

The winner of your order has been dispatched was wiggle. Delivery winner was Chain reaction (under 24 hours), Wiggle a day later. Still awaiting 'your order has been dispatched' email from Parker some 3 days later. All a huge improvement of the wait 28 days for delivery back in the good old days!

Interestingly Parkers is the cheapest place by far for stainless steel inner cables - under a quid.

Pace RC38 Airforce 2 magnesium bridges are very light and strong but those grooves in the back aren't half a beggar to get mud out of!

Off to strip a DA cassette now.

S'nice way to spend a few days stripping a bike down and rebuilding with fresh lube etc. Only sometimes I think my modern bike is held together with bits of caked on mud and I'm afraid to look underneath

I've also discovered that tyres come up a treat on the 30 mins cycle with bio washing powder. But ssshhhh don't tell Mrs radar
