In the course of researching the history of Overburys cycle shop , I found that during the early
1970's when the shop was owned by Enid and Arthur Powell , the local CTC branch used to meet
there before starting off on their Thursday evening rides .

If anyone can confirm this , or indeed has any other information about the shop ,
I would be grateful

I lived out in what is now , South Gloucetershire ( Charfield actually - until 1967) and used to visit from time to time, along with Fred Baker's ( Cheltenham Road), and the much more interesting Thanet Cycles ?? ( further along the road)
It always seemed rather dark and dingy but the service was good, much better than at Fred Baker ( a bit more 'stuffy').

Thank you for your kind comment Kingfisher. I think it was 1947 or 48 that I bought a new hub axle for my BSA 3 speed from Mr Overbury. Arthur was his mechanic then. It was in the late 70s that Arthur fatally contracted pneumonia. Enid bravely kept the shop going until Andy
was able to join her.
