Original Spec Of a GT Xizang 1998??

Looking at 98 Catalogue Xizang was available as frame only and no Lightning.

If it was a complete bike it might have been built up by a shop to the
spec they thought right.

And 97 catalogue shows frame only with Lightning available as
bike.

it might be that one, i cant really see it. it is unpainted and polished TI and the mech hanger is integrated. it also has the loop on the rear of the seat tube (canti loop?) it looks like an older model but the seial code begins with GTX97

The Lightning was a two year wonder available only as a complete bike in 1997 and 1998. During those years (pre-carbon) almost everyone had a Ti frame or bike in their line. GT's international distributors wanted a lower price point complete bike so GT spec'd the Lightning with a US Sandvik tube set yet welded in Taiwan to lower the cost. When the Lightning was spec'd they looked at component weights and did everything they could to spec light and affordable. Hence the STX-RC/LX mix. The Xizang was available as a framest from 1990-1999 and as a complete bike in 1994 and 1999 only. 1999 was the year of the painted white frame with red and blue decals. l think the Xizang was available frame only, you specced it how you could afford.

Not so complete bike was offered in 94 and 99 see links I posted.

it looks like an older model but the seial code begins with GTX97

If GTX97 then it's a 97 model frame that would have originally had blue decals.

It's a 97 forsure with the canti hanger loop. Standard on 96-8 from what I've seen.
