Orange frames, (caution, weight weenie content)

Does anyone know the weight of Orange steel and alloy frames ?, specifically a 91 Clockwork and a 95 E3 ?, what would be the lighter of the two ?

Got my Clockwork down to 21.5 lbs, got an E3 frame on the way, was wondering what it's going to weight with similar bits.

Both frames are 17" if that's relevant.

So that'd make the E3 a 20 lb bike, i like the sound of that

Not sure of the weight difference but a 19" E4 frame weighs around 3lb 10oz so reckon on a 17" being around 3 1/2Ib. That should make for a light build.

Oh, and they're a s stiff as a stiff thing, so go like a rocket.

Is your clockwork really 21.5lb?

Is it still the same spec as in the 'Show us your Orange' thread? Just curious really. I know Clockworks were fairly heavy frames, maybe 4.5 - 5lb, so pretty similar to my '92 Lava Dome. I've only got that to 23.5lb running a pretty high spec :?

Well it was weigh'd ballanced on it's back wheel on the bathroom scales i don't know how accurate that is but it was 10kg on the scales, with my rough maths i got that to 22.5lb but that was before i changed the tyres and pedals so i deducted a pound for those. (tyres were changed from wire beads to kevlars and the pedals from gusset to NC17 trekers)

Don't know if you can make out in that pic but it's got carbon bars and White industries hubs on it (are White industries lighter than Shimano hubs ?)

Ah, right, well my bathroom scales sure aint expensive , i think i'll get a proper set of scales.

The Clockwork rides nice though, certainly feels light.

Can't wait to get my mits on the E3 though, where's that friggin postman

Sub 24lb on a basic steel frame is good going IMO.

I'd take a guess at the E3 in the same spec would come in 1.5lb lighter

My 95 C16R frame weighs 4.2lbs, which is light for steel and only 3/4lb or so more than a light aluminium frame of that vintage. I know nothing about 91 Clockworks, but I'd guess it was a bit heavier as steel frames were specified more conservatively around then. I think it was around 93/94 when the vogue for shaving weight really took over from the original clunker mentality in mtb design.

The C16R weighs 23.5 all-up with an F7 fork, fairly light wheels/tyres and basic kit. I agree with Paul about the 21.5 thing. No disrespect, but people believe whatever they want to believe and in the real world a 23lb bike is a light bike. If you like the way it rides and it gets you up hills then it doesn't really matter exactly what it weighs.
