Orange E3, fork steerer tube.

Right, dilema number two with the E3, i bought it assuming the forks had a plain steerer as the original deal included an A-head stem
(why include an A-head stem with a deal involving forks with a threaded steerer  ), it'd be easy enough to fit a threaded headset and quill stem
but i really dont want too, (prefer the A-head set up, sorry), forks are alloy with a steel steerer tube, would it be possible to get a plain
steerer fitted to these ?

Fear i may need to be looking for a set of forks too

Here's a pic of the Orange forks

Take them to a local engineering company.

If they are very careful about heat transmission, they should be able to remove the threaded section and weld an extension on to the existing steerer.

Having said that, they may be able to press the existing steerer out and fit a new one, you won't know until they've had a look. :?

Steerer wont be long enough, pretty sure they are the original forks so only long enough for a threaded headset.

I'll try my local engineering company, wondering if it'd be worth sending them to Argos though ?

The only 'neat' solutions are to source a replacement set of forks or use a regular headset and stem.

You could get one of those gash aheadstem steerer extenders but I'd not.

I have to say that a nice threaded headset and polished Stalk stem would be my solution too (and they look the biz). Orange were very late converting to a-head stems.

Exactly!

Well, i may give a threaded one a go, last threaded headset i had on a bike was in the 90's (on a Proflex)
damned thing kept slackening off, then i knackered it trying to tighten it with stillsons borrowed from a garage when it slackened off miles from home

Since A-headsets came out i swore i'd stick with them.
