Orange c16r crumple-zone special

Ouch indeed. Yes, that's about normal. It's like hitting a brick-wall, just shorter and over 20mph+ is quicker than you think.

Re:

Ouch!

Bet that stung!

Given the circumstances I'm not surprised the the frame collapsed. It's actually worse than hitting a brick wall (unless it's a very short one) as the wheel will stop, while the rest of the bike - and you - carry on going.

Hope you recover soon. Keep the wrist mobile as much as possible after surgery. It'll stop it ceasing up and help with it healing.

Yup..I second (or third) that...Unfortunate, but pretty normal failure given the situation.
Huge amounts of energy that need to go somewhere, and a very solid fork.

All the best,

Nasty, i hope you recover well and quickly, even though healing time slows down as we get older :)

Lucky in some respects, in that the frame took a fair bit of the force, and might have saved you further injury.

I think a better sollution instead of building in weak spots, would be to avoid tree stumps in future  and a friend of mine would probably try to bend it back, then try to sell it

Re:

Thanks for the replies. Seems that is pretty standard damage under the circumstances.
I will be back on the trails soon as I'm fixed and got myself another ride. I feel lucky really, I could have landed on my face... eek.
Lesson learned.. don't take your eye off the ball!

Re:

I was with spibblo whilst he was show boating - wasn’t a pretty sight! Mkone, I took the frame home with me, a bit of panel beating and some polish and it should come up brand new! - watch out in the classifieds ;)

I had some woman bring a new bike back to the store when i worked at Halfords in a similar condition, she stood and argued for 10 minutes that it just happened as little Johnny was riding along and how dare you say he crashed it....
