On-One: Fat Chancer retro steel frame

HaHa I love the way On-One are always finding themselves under fire in various threads on here - are they considered some kind of threat?!!

I'm not actually bothered where a frame is made. As a designer and builder of some long forgotten Hifi speakers I know what it is to be given a strict budget but to be called a shit rider just because I found the whole on One experience unpleasant? Thats not good publicity. Thats needled me more than anything on this thread. I wont bother spending my money on radgley or on one

Nothing like a company with a sense of humour to wind up people who take themselves far too seriously. If you like what they make, buy one. If you don't, don't.

They're not hurting anyone, no-one's going to buy a new On-One mistaking it for a new Fat Chance.

To me they sell a product that fits a segment of the market almost no-one else serves. Non-boutique off the shelf steel frames at a reasonable price point. If I was buying my choice is pretty much limited to On-One or Merlin's non Rock Lobster built Rock Lobsters for three times as much.

Shedfire is not the designer of the On One fat chancer and is no longer at on one.

LGF. He has every right to call you a shit rider, after all you're slagging off something he designed. What do you expect!

Maybe you should get your hair cut short, might help more on climbs

Mr Big Cheese.

If you can point out where I said you were a shit rider, I'll eat my shorts.

ps: I once used the "eat my shorts" line about the Fat Chance Team frame, which I did, as a photoshoot, when I bought my Yo.

Seriously - I'd love to hear your thoughts as to (other than the points I raised) how a frame can be "piss poor at climbing". I stand by my comments. Fork length (you've clarified that, and I don't think that's the case), so we're down to heavy tyres. I can't see what else it can be?

I'm pretty "piss poor at climbing" right now. Not enough time on the bike.
Though I am rolling on Dual Ply 42A High Rollers.

I didn't call him a shit rider. I pointed it out as a reason why a bike might climb badly.

He can say what he wants about my designs, but I'd rather have discussions than arguments, as I think discussing and educating people about the mechanical reasons for things is more fun.

As a designer did you see anything in the Fat Chancer that was inspired by a Yo Eddy?

I did not ride the Fat Chancer (or any other On One bike) nor did I ever ride a genuine Fat, and I never rode with LGF. So there's three things I can't possibly have opinion about. Maybe LGF is a shit rider for not being able to get the bike on top of a hill, maybe Shedfire is a shit designer for coming up with poor frame designs, or maybe the truth lies somewhere in between. Maybe a frame (any frame) will suit some riders, while others will dislike it.
But then naming a frame which isn't built with the same craftmanship and attention to detail and doesn't have the heritage to back it up after a frame that does, you gotta admit is very low. The frame may be fine in its own right, but it just isn't and will never be a Fat. And in my book calling things something they aren't is lame.

I can tell him personally that the On-One Inbred I owned was very bad. Heavy, piss poor at climbing compared to other frames and just not that nice.

Sorry to hear that. Heavy is a relative thing, and I think for a frame at that price point, the Inbred's are a pretty fair weight.

'Piss poor at climbing' can be traced to many things. Heavy tyres, forks that are too long, shit rider. Hard to say there.

Not that nice? I don't ever recall them being sold as artwork.

Anyhow. I've moved on. Hope you have.

So, you designed the Inbred but are no longer at On-one. Fair enough, but I get the feeling you dont really care about the products you're trying to shift and so far haven't persuaded me with any technical explanation as to why I had a bad day with my frame.

Who pays your wages? Your boss? No, we the gossippy babbling brook of internet forum users and people with (sometimes too much or not enough) money in our pockets. I dont find your answers so far to be very professional if your are supposed to be representing a company that designs and manufactures a product and expects the great unwashed to go out and spend money on them.

Would we get the same treatment If any of us bought a Radgely?
