That is a sad end to what was a great decent. Similar levels of devastation happened last Winter in my local bit of forest when the contractors moved in to do some clear felling.
What were good all weather tracks were churned up into black stinking quagmires. No quicksand though as far as I was aware. Although there was talk of a couple of lost dog walkers in the woods, and the locals still mutter in an unsettling tone about the rumours of a mud monster...

It's all been repaired and resurfaced now though, and although the trails have lost some of their original character, they are improving week on week. A good hard winter should sort them out.
