Old Old Claud Butler Fillet frame and forks

That looks very 50'ish to me..........will it need a clip type headset?

Good find though

Shaun

Doesn't need a headclip; you can tell by the style of head tube.

Thanks RK...... I assumed that if the head tube was straight (like a tube) it needed a normal headset.

And if a head tube had a flared top and bottom it needed an insert with a head clip.....

I guess that this is the former :)

Hi Shaun.

That's right, if the headtube is flared top and bottom it'll be for a headclip, if it is"normal", i.e parallel, then it takes a standard (1") headset.
With a headclip the tracks (that the races run in) are usually integral with the tube...or at least they are on my '46 Soens and '47 Hetchins.

If someone's butchered the headtube (clip type) then you have a (could be big) problem.

If the headclip is missing then you've little choice but get one made to pattern - if you have a pattern.

Seat Tube Clip.

I forgot,

I see the seat tube clip is missing on this frame - this clip is common on fillet brazed frames, and is another hard to source component.

The old iron horse has gone to a more loving home now and will be getting the restoration it so rightly deserves

Fest you are a star for finding this. Many thanks also to Gravy Monster for sorting the rehoming. As the new owner I'm pretty delighted. :D :D :D

Amazingly I gave it a scrub last night and the chrome is in really good condition. Which suggests this 62 year old only became wayward recently.

Number on the forks is 9 10 3817. My thoughts are that its either an "All Rounder" or "Supervelo". I'd be very welcome to suggestions on this? :?
