Old car stereo question

I have a Sony CDX-5181 that I'd like to put into my old car.

Unfortunately, I don't have the power loom or the installation manual (and the operating manual isn't much help). So, does Legrandfromage or anybody else here happen to know the pin assignations and wiring plan for the Sony 7 pin socket? All I can find on the interwebs seems to want me to pay for a photocopy of the installation manual or be for the later 16 pin socket.

I don't really want to pay for a photocopy of a manual for a unit that I don't even know will work, but will stand a pint or a big bar of chocolate for anybody who can help.

You are best off getting the correct plug from ebay or amazon, it will be MUCH easier to wire up.

You say '7 pin' socket - I need to see that as that stereo will have at least 8pins just for the speakers!

I've got a couple of antique sony headunits under the stairs, (one with built in minidisc and one to run a 6 mini disc changer)
Pretty sure they'll have the same/similar set up at the back. I've still got at least one of the manuals, so i should be able to find the cabling schematic in there somewhere. Think they both have two plugs, one for "working" stuff, power etc and one for sound.

If you don't get any joy on here, drop me a pm and i'll crawl into the pit of despair and see what's in there.

I know it is old. That's one of the reasons I'd like to use it. The other is that it has what Sony called a "Walkman input socket" which just happens to be the same as a modern aux in socket for an ipod.

I'll post up a picture of the rear of the unit, showing the separate wiring for speakers and the socket, and another picture of the (power) socket that I need to know the pin designations for. It is a 4 pin over 3 pin layout.

That was a bizarre moment.

Anyway, never seen that type before but...

One pin will be permanent, then switched via the ignition, a power out for an electric aerial. There might be a few unused and one will be the negative earth.

It you have a battery charger, that will help. Just prod about and you should be able to sort something out.
