So what can I say. Well the double gives a decent pool of light in front of the bike with a large focused spot in the middle lights up my garden very well. It should serve it's intended purpose as a handlebar mounted main light very well.
The Single spot gives a smaller focus point and is noticeably not as bright but I have used this out on the trails and it works really well when deployed as a helmet mounted light. giving excellent range and long run time.
The double I also wouldn't put on the helmet as it does get quite warm after a minute or two, but should be fine out on the bars.

I'd expect the double to give more flood as the reflectors are smaller. Basically bigger reflectors focus the beam more. Also it's good that the double gets hot, the fact that the single doesn't is one of its main problems. The poor design results in poor thermal conductivity between the electronics and the outside casing, I dont think the driver has any thermal cutout either. I saw a review once that measured the driver board at 70-80 degrees C. My Hope light gets hot and will switch to a lower setting if left on in still air. In the same conditions the casing on my chinese single XML light barely gets warm :facepalm:

So a mod to the Single with some of this gear: http://www.tesco.com/direct/px804c-epox ... tAodiUcAnA would be worthwhile then. I was looking at the stripped down one on page 2 and think I should bond the circuit board to the coil and then to the alloy, what do you think?

You could give it a go. I potted the whole inside of that ally bit (in the photo on page 2) with a thermally conductive compound and then used heatsink compound when I put that ally bit back in the casing. It didn't make any noticable difference to the heat issue but I did secure the coil. There simply isn't enough contact area between the driver and the ally part that the driver and LED are mounted on and then again not enough metal to metal contact between that part and the casing. The driver board has components on both sides so it sits on a small ledge only contacting the metal around its edge. Decent drivers are single sided so they can be adhered with thermal glue to a flat metal surface. Sounds like they have resolved the problem with the double LED version though.

Securing the coil is a good idea. It fell off on my mates light and soldering it back on didnt fix the light.

My ROSE single eBay light gets hot if left on full. Its different to the single on the above bike. It also came with a full battery pack and has the system where flash is an option only on hold not the cycle
It never seems to run out either unlike some of my mates Chinese UK buys that have flash in the normal select sequence.
There battery pack I think are cut down 4s I.e one missing.
We ride ever wed night so its taken some stick so far in the rain mud and hours on.

I use it hung up as a shed light too.

Mines now been nodded with a hope universal clamp as it makes on off fitting much easier while I did that I cut the cables down to a proper length.

That's why I posted the picture. I always unplug the battery on these, this one could have caused a fire if I didn't. It lives in my camera bag, which lives in my house or car, so it's not a pleasant thought.

If I buy another, which I might, I'll be opening it up to check for horrors.

ROSE is the colour of the ring around the light aka pink
It was the title of LGF thread taken from the HK/China Cree lights title. So became known as the rose light. They still sell it and as it not got flasig on the sequence and three power setting I prefer it to the others that can be had.


Cannot find the original sale, but it'll have been TomTop again, here a similar add. Note the brightness/flash modes.
though cable on the lamp was very long and battery was short.

Ignore lumens as it's as bright if not brighter than many similar on our night rides claiming more.

I found my Magicshine of very limited use on the road without one of those lenses. To avoid dazzling oncoming drivers I had to have it set so low that I was riding along in a pool of light.
