Norco Mocha turned Commuter/Cyclocross SS with Disc Brakes

This was suppose to be a commuter for my fiance, but it wasn't pretty enough. No big loss ... I claimed it and I am quite pleased with how it turned out ... was very economical as well. Not sure if it qualifies as a retrobike anymore, but it started as one.

I got the frame locally for $25. It was damage free but ROUGH. Pitted and filthy. Its a suspension adjusted 26er frame with a lot of clearance. The 29er rims and CX tyres fit with about 1/4" to spare. I had it powder coated white. It looks like new less a little cable rub mark on the headtube. Its a single speed with a rear derailleur for tension so I can change rings and what not without removing the chain. Rides well so far. I have done about 20km on it so far just shaking it down ... first commute monday on it.

I saw one on the road that was mint a few days ago. Looked nice in the polish. I think the previous owner of my frame lived on gravel roads because the frame was just chewed on the downtube. Pretty impressed with the powder coat. I didn't expect it to look as good as it does. I shoulda done the fork to.

Gotta change that front gear. I had a 39T and a 52T ... definitely need something in the middle.

Other than that it was real nice on the first commute. I want to be able to do some light XC on it as well when the weather is nice and I feel like an extra sweat.

Just noticed you built it as a drop bar gravel grinder. If I had the bits lying about I think I'd try that on one of my bikes. I picked up an old early 80's Diamondback with the idea that I'd try that, but I'm liking it more the way it is at the moment so I'm just going to tart it up.

Ya ... It's essentially a SS cyclocross bike now. You need a 26er frame with a lot of clearance to do the cx tires. After that the issue is brakes. You can either mod the cantilevers in some way or opt for a disc conversion like this one.
