Can long non threaded forks (Project 2's) be "converted" into shortened threaded forks?

If so, is this a DIY job, or best left to a professional?

Or am I wasting my time and money, when I should just concentrate on getting some threaded jobbies in the forst place?

All advice greatly apprecited!

Don't know how hard it would be to convert, but threaded P2's are plentiful and cheap so why make life hard...

I very handily have a pair for sale !!! going cheap...Pm me if interested..

Most shops will charge by the inch to thread (if you can find one with the correct cutter as alot of the larger chain shops don't bother with these expensive tools as they don't get used that much). Not vastly expensive to do £10 a inch or there abouts, just be careful that your fork doesn't have a butted steerer that is only designed to be cut down a certain amount. Not sure how you intend to diy this job as it'd be a bit hard trying to cut you own thread with a hacksaw blade!

hmm

well i assume he was going to use a tap and die set to cut his own thread! not sure if its true but someone once told me that the thread size on the majority of steerer tubes is an odd size not found in normal tap and die sets, give it a try
