Newbie help - stuck seat post

SunnyOutlook

Retro Newbie
Hello everyone!
After seeing some of the older builds on here I bought a 1993 Kona Kilauea last week but the seat post is stuck with only a couple of inches exposed at the top.
Maybe I should have chosen a better first project but as cheap and local to me it was meant to be.
Any advise would be gratefully received as I haven't done this type of thing before.
Cheers
Alan :D

Welcome!

How bad Is it stuck? Is It alloy seat post. Did You try to move it in vice?
Plenty of penetrating oil can help in some cases.
Or If It's stuck in right position just ride as is. :)

hi alan.....there are loads of threads detailing this, a search at the top of the page should reveal all the help you need, a good soaking for a week or so in penetrating oil and use of a saddle or broom handle to get a little extra 'welly' when twisting helps, clamp post in a vice and twist the frame, drill a hole to get a bar or large screwdriver through another option......they can as a last resort be cut out with a hacksaw too....have a delve around here, loads of others have faced the same dilema!...when it budges after a prolonged battle, the sense of satisfaction is immense so good luck!... :D

Hi Alan, welcome to Retro Bike, as Feetabix said, a damn good soak in penetraiting oil for a few days and the a bit of vice work should do it?!?
I had to do it on a bottom bracket but worked a treat!!
By the way, this will not stop here!!!!
You will already be thinking about your next build!
Once again, welcome :D

Thank you for sharing!

I've stripped it as much as I can and took a couple of pictures. As you can see it's in very deep.

I don't have the right tools to remove the crank or bottom bracket so have squirted WD40 in the bottle cage holes to get in side the frame.

Popping over to a garage tomorrow to use their vice.

You may be lucky if someone shortened seatpost.
Just loose that seatpost binder. Or am I binder
Sorry for telling obvious. Good luck!

WD40 wont do anything. You need proper penetrating oil in there.

Leave it soaking for a few days, then use mole grips or a vice and twist and it should give up. I've had seatposts stuck with less showing than that and worked them out this way.

Search on here for other results, its been asked 1000000089745r times!

Good luck and report back.
