Morning all,

A mate at work has just got a Scosche Rhythm+ wrist HRM and swears by it. I have to ride with a monitor and the chest straps are a bit of a pain compared to an arm strap.

Been looking at the above and also a Mio Link (Mio velo not needed) and was wondering if anybody has any experience of either. I'm aware of the limited run times and need to charge but was wondering how comfortable/user friendly they are with a garmin 500 or similar.

thanks THM

Good morning from wet, cold and miserable Norn Iron,

My friend got an iWatch (I presume that is what it is called but you get the idea) recently. He had previously various wrist mounted things but now swears by the new iWatch. I think it cost around £420 with a stainless steel strap. Might be worth a look although a bit pricey for me at the moment. It also does more computer type things - he mentioned a 'nudge' function perhaps someone could enlighten me as to what actual use this is.

Hope you are well, I have been uber busy,
Richard

I've used an Apple watch and a Fitbit surge as they consistently got the best scores in tests, they are great fun tools allowing you to see how active you are and give you the ability to compare activity on one day to the next. The biggest issue is the fact that the HR is always too low, especially when exercising.
I wear my garmin chest strap when riding and when I compare the accurate garmin against the Fitbit or the apple the max HR is anywhere between 10-40% too low. On a standard 50km ride yesterday the garmin listed my average HR at 140, the Fitbit at 105 (with my heart rate up Box Hill being 110, apparently..)

The wrist ones are great for normal use, walking around etc but next to useless for exercising. I just don't think the technology is there yet. If you want a great motivational and comparative tool get a wrist monitor, if you want an accurate tool for measuring and training then keep on using your chest monitor

Thanks guys but does anybody have any experience of the specific ones listed in the OP? Scosche and Mio?

Not up for an Iwatch etc. Invetigated those a while back and will wait for V3 or 4. These two latest simpler tech ones swear by accuracy etc. The reviews on bike forums say accuracy is up with chest straps but was just wondering about drop out and spikes etc. Also if they're reliable. and comfortable.

Thanks. Had seen those which led me to the mio.

Will see what comes up on fleabay.
