My unicorn - 1994 Kona Hei Hei - FULL SPEC/FINISHED PICS ON PAGE 8 & 9 - BOTY 2021, BOTM April 2021 & 2nd MucOff Show & Shine Malverns Classic 2021

Re:

Despite having the spec I wanted a component became available that the magpie within wanted, so after a hefty lightening of the wallet I sourced this insane rare Tioga titanium cassette along with all of the original spacers and lock-ring. Doing some research and they were made by SRP for Tioga. I thought it was the ultimate cassette to have on a Tioga Disk Drive Pro and I didn't think this build had enough titanium on apart from the frame, fork, chainrings, bb, crank bolts, QR's, pedals, bars, barends and almost every bolt

I never set out to build this as a weight weenie bike, I just wanted a full on boutique build race bike, but when I was swapping the cassettes over I was intrigued to see what the weight differences were between my originally fitted 28-12T XTR M900 S3 Type P cassette with Ultimate Machine Co aluminium lock-ring and my newly acquired 28-12T Tioga titanium cassette, so out came the digital scales...

252g - Tioga Titanium cassette including lock-ring
323g - XTR M900 S3 Type P cassette including OEM lock-ring
317g - XTR M900 S3 Type P cassette including Ultimate Machine Co titanium lock-ring
314g - XTR M900 S3 Type P cassette including Ultimate Machine Co aluminium lock-ring

So after around a 4 month wait the final bits have arrived back after being re-anodised. They were all NOS parts, however 25 years of shop soiling left them with a finish that my OCD wasn't happy with. These parts were;

NOS Ringle Holey seat clamp
NOS Ringle Zooka top cap
NOS Kona Dog Bone rear cable guide
NOS Kona seat clamp

Despite not using the Kona seat clamp on this build (at present) I got it re-anodised as well so it was ready if needed as I am still not 100% sure if I like the look of the Ringle Holey seat clamp.

Before they are fitted I am just waiting for 2 raw titanium bolts to arrive for the seat clamp and top cap.

Some of the parts need a good dust

Awesome! Top job Sir.
I'm after a zooka top cap also, where did you locate yours to?

Thank you :D

I found my top cap in America after around a 1.5 year search. They do come up, but they are hard to find as I think people just threw them in their spare parts box. What colour are you after as if I see one I will let you know?

Cheers mate, it’s really appreciated. Will hopefully be finished soon.

Re:

Whilst fitting the crank dust covers I realised that they fouled on the NOS black SRP crank bolts that was a shame as I liked that they matched the black SRP chainring bolts, so I had to go on the hunt for some equally boutique crank bolts and I came across some NOS black Upgrade titanium crank bolts that are surprisingly insane light!

Re:

Due to being insane busy over the past few weeks progress has been slow on this.

Ive sourced NOS XTR gear cables and brake cables that I've just started fitting.

A few replacement titanium bolts have now arrived. Im still hunting for a Venhill or SRP titanium bolt kit for the Onza HO brakes
