My Orange Aluminium O - the inch and a quarter dilemma.

My AluO is also a 3rd batch frame - and has a USE post & shim.
I can check the sizes in the morning.

Can you age and ID it??

Ok here goes, pictures below of cable guides and mech hanger. Frame number is A1 120051.

So any idea correct size seat post and front mech band diameter?

Any ideas??

Thanks.

That is the 4th batch, has the welded guides and removed chainstay brace.. (which might contradict what I said before I cannot remeber) but have since noticed and info given to boy-o-boy

Boy-O-Boy should be able to confirm the serial number

Will be same as teh seatpost I mention 27.6 iirc as that's the shim that came out of one and band will be the middle one 31.8 (the middle size)
Alu-O are not fat tubed bikes, but skinny Alu one's

Measure it

like the forks on that bike looks sweet,I have a stem in 1 and a 1/4 if you like karma too

I mesaured the down tube width with my vernier and it was 33mm but I have realised it is ovalised slightly, so not sure what it should be.

Measure in between the bottle bosses, that's where you'r front mech will attach

just measured again between bottle bosses. It was 32mm.

However the mark in the paint from the mech is much lower where it was 33mm, that's assuming the previous owner had it fitted in the correct place

32 is the same as mine so 31.8mm band it is.

If it's lower than the bottle lowest bottle boss then the user used a modern low band/top swing style mech and will have tried to clamp it around the place where it is oval starting to.

Ignore and fit the correct style band ;)

Thanks for that. Had been looking at others photos too and came to a similar conclusion.

I'm gussing the seat post shim will be the tricky issue. Has someone mentioned using a coke can!!

Of no practical help whatsoever....but what a REALLY nice looking bike-in-the-making in that colour and with those forks!

PS "I'm gussing the seat post shim will be the tricky issue. Has someone mentioned using a coke can!!"

Better than a coke can IMO/E is the top off a sardine tin - if they still use those with a winder opener which nicely "curves" the tin as it is removed.
