My mate just got hit and run

he went out on his own this morning. Didnt see the car that hit him from behind and no one stopped to help. Just spent the day in A&E after walking 5 miles home. He is pretty dazed but got away with no major injuries, just lots of road rash, bad bruising and a smashed bike.

My question is, what should he do? I told him to report it to the police but he reckons its a waste of time as there were no witnesses.

Re:

I hope he recovers and heals, it could have ended tragically :x

I would report if for sure, there may be witnesses that come forward. The car may have been damaged too.

Re:

The police have always told me to report everything even if there will be no outcome.
They use the data to build up a map of things that might be happening.
There may be other such instances, you never know.

I assume the report number will be needed for insurance if going that route for a new bike.

Re:

Definitely report it!

Your mate could have be left for dead, the person that hit him needs to be found.

Re:

Thanks for all your comments. I just got off the phone to him and I am really surprised at the lack of interest from the "authorities" to this. His local doctor told him he could have an appointment in 2 weeks unless they get a cancellation, so he has called the hospital to get the accident and emergency record across to the doctor to see if they will see him earlier.

It also seems that as he didnt arrive at hospital by ambulance, he needs to report the hit and run himself in person. He is going to go to the police station when he can move, which will be a couple of days as he is pretty stiff and chopped about. I was wondering if there is a hotline to report this sort of thing ?

MUST report it :? If only to possibly avoid a repeat where the cyclist isnt so lucky.

Also, get a lawyer and put in a claim for compo. At least it will help with the expenses like the bike.

Glad he's relatively OK :) We're all aware of how vulnerable we can be. And this type of incident is something we likely all fear.

Re:

He should definitely report it and he should take photographs of any damage to the bicycle, his clothing and also of any injuries he's sustained.

Re:

Local police should have a hotline and email address. Post it on their Facebook too.
PCO or whatever should come out?
They do for shed break in, so hit n run you would have thought also.
