My concept bike for Cannondale [not mtb, but still retro]

just some points on the practicalities of the design

rear mudguard could do with being longer as the dirt would flick up and spoil the the owners hair - it wouldnt harm the flow of the rear stays

spoked wheels? They bend, snap, corrode etc, any thoughts on composite maintenance free style wheels?

As for diction, punctuation etc, NEVER ask an Englishman - we are all crap.

actually there is a small extension that slides out of the fender tube to make it longer, it is a bit of a compromis, but as you say it is too short as it is.

for the wheels: one thing that was clear from the analysis was that women love the shine normal spokes in the sunlight ;) so that is why I didn't use scifi looking wheels, and no black spokes either

Nice bike! 8)

I like the crank/BB arrangement.

One thing I would be concerned with is the handlebar/stem lock thing. If it's used regularly I could see play developing in the hinges over time. Also something like that would be proprietary and therefore expensive to replace. A conventional bar/stem setup would be more future proof and also cheaper to replace if the need arose. Granted it wouldn't look as nice but it's something to think about. :D

beautiful. a really well executed piece of engineering work there.

as many say it ticks all the boxes for a concept bike. i really like how the tech is all hidden away and you've kept it looking very simple and slick.

I see the film was shot in Rotterdam, if you have the chance you could take the bike and drop by Plein 1940 on a friday night. Always a good number of bike enthousiasts and a lot of them are also into art and design type stuff so they might have some useful input. Plus it would alow me to see the bike in person :D
If this seems like a good idea just let me know, and I'll try to get the bike and your visit to the Plein featured on the RFG website that organizes the friday night meets. (although I can't make any promises here because I don't run the website)

@Xesh: Don't worry, it is a quickrelease system. Compare it with your wheels, you never have play on your wheel quickreleases, do you? and
with the stem here you don't take it apart all the time, like you take out
your wheels. And if needed you can tighten the stem quickrelease.

@PIGEON: Funny you mention Rotterdam. The bike will be in the 'Kunsthal'
museum in Rotterdam from 19 December till 21 March. And there will be lots
more Dutch design (also bikes).
It is really a one off prototype, so not really the kind of stuff you'd take out on a Friday night, sorry. But maybe I'll drop by some time, I used to ride
a fixed Klein to the faculty, I could put it back together again. Cheers

Haha I didn't mean you should let everyone have a ride, but I know what you mean. Getting hit by a car would suck extra hard when you're riding a 4k prototype bike.
Build up the Klein and drop by the Plein some time :xmas-cool:

I like the look of it and I'll ask the misses later.

One thing I notice is the rear light isn't very useful unless you are flying in the sky or are at the side of the bike. Even with wide angle LED's it's still not going to shine out to the rear of the bike in an efficient or particularly useful way. Only in a pretty artistic way.
Though you say the red lens covering directs it to the rear, from what I can see it doesn't actual seem to look like it's doing that. Maybe move to surface mount LED's as well

Maybe a picture in the dark from car driver height at some 200m and 100m would show if it works.

What about reflectors, you'll need some if it goes for sale in the UK. Probably on the wheels and pedals if I remember correctly.

Great to see you on here, and even better to see that bike again! It's a lovely thing, truly lovely!

Mrs Slackal has already started asking if/when she can have one! It's rare she likes a bike this much, but the aesthetics of that thing are top notch!

Make it! Please?

Thats a lovely bike you've got yourself there! The only minor thing I would add is what about the pedals? They look like an afterthought, it's a very sexy bike with ordinary pedals

Got to say I think it's a truly awesome concept :D

As for the tyres being maintenance free (well the possibility of punctures), would it be slime tubes used or the 'tubes' which look like expanded polystyrene (think solid tubes of pipe lagging).
Apologies for not remembering the name but I only saw them a long time ago in a few mags. The idea was good but not really practical for off-road use due to them not 'giving', therefore making the ride a little harsh. There were different compounds iirc.
They may be ideal for the intended use of this bike though.
