will this uber skinny rubber fit a standard rim (e.g the ones that are currently home to a 2.25 fire xc pro) or do you need a slimline 26" rim once you get below a certain width?

Mine are on the original rims with no bother whatsoever!

Likewise, whilst not on anything like the original rims, the fatboys have always been run on "standard" mountain bike rims which have happily taken 2.1 tyres at different times.

Echo the comments on these runnig on standard rims.
I've run Tioga CitySlickers and Spec FatBoys - both are 1.25" - usually on Mavic517 rims.

FatBoys are superb - but are full slicks - no tread or grooves - so I'm not sure how they'd be in the wet.

I'm contemplating Continental Sport Contact in the 1.3 at the mo - puncture resistant and quite highly rated. Anyone tried em?

Good point. I run 1.2 on Mavic 231 / 717 but found 1" too harsh.

you'll not get anything skinnier than a 1.0, bearing in mind that pro roadies are starting to gravitate towards 25mm tyres over the previous 23s, it's more than skinny enough :)

I've got some Panaracer Ribmo. In 1.25 at 95psi they roll good and fast.

You think so? I bought a set after picking up about 60 thorns during one ride on FatBoys. Most didn't puncture the tube immediately but it was still a b!tc# taking them all out to prevent future punctures.

Agree they are decently fast as long as you are absolutely upright but the pointed center design seems to rob speed during any amount of turning or leaning. The design does seem to perform well while leaning into corners but at the expense of speed I imagine.

The 'feel' just isn't as smooth as FatBoys either. I actually enjoyed taking my FatBoy's on the dirt on occasion. The RiBMo's are sketchy as hell on dirt.

I should have tried Conti Sport Contact. I think I'd prefer them to RiBMo.

Even on my rather skinny tubed steel bike I'm starting to think 1.25 might be too skinny. The increased pressure sure allows for some easy riding on paved trails but some 1.5ish size are tempting me.

Never had any issues. Only time I had any slippage, no amount of tread would have made a difference. Slick tyre means maximum contact with the road surface.

Used to run my Raleigh Max Cromo on Contis (sport contact I think). Very fast rolling with a Kevlar layer, so virtually puncture proof too. Made for a right dandy commuter tool.
