Moulding body parts (non-pervy!!)

I have a cunning plan..

It involves making a mould of my arm and making a 'shell' in something sturdy (like fibreglass perhaps??)

Anyone got relevant hints/tips/info??

Everything from creating the mould itself to materials (and process) to make the shell...

Googling brings up a lot of alginate hits but I'm wondering whether I could use modroc??

Modroc cast my arm, create a plaster cast from that and use the plaster as a former for the resin or fibreglass or whatever??

Are you thinking in terms of some kind of body-armour for off-roading?

In which case, won't you have to be careful with how you do the moulding - if the orientation or position of your arm has the muscles contracting differently, then you could have something that may be quite uncomfortable / restrictive in use?

Yes...

I need to immobilise my arm and my current ROM brace is a bit bulky..

Reading about accidents on here recently got me thinking..

If I fell off and my arm was forced either straight or my hand to my shoulder, the elbow would explode (pretty much).. end result a stay in hospital, more surgery and either elbow fusion or arm removal at the elbow..
Surgery means about 3months rehab and probably a severe restriction on anything that involves arm usage.. :?

What I need is a thin-ish hard casing that fixes my arm in position (solid exo-skeleton 8) ).. I'd probably line it with sheepskin..

I just don't know the best way to go about it and couldn't afford to approach anyone who specialises in this stuff..

Last time I asked my consultant, he sent me to the plaster room who made me a back slab which I binned in 2 days because it broke even under day to day tasks..

oh i see
this could be a good plan
maybe you layer something with a possible plastic liner or similar then layer that something again on top
this way, if its reasonably strong, it should take an impact (and possibly break) yet it wont fully smash, held together by the middle laye as suggested

just a thought

yeah carbon fibre!
is that simliar to fibre glass i.e in moulding it

not sure how much though

buy the fibres and the epoxy and your away!
mould you arm in plaster of paris first (and the textile they use to keep it together)

or cant you but carbon fibre in already made pieces? just need to apply the epoxy :?

Got a local art school.Ask in there ,its likely there will be plenty of candidates willing to assist, they may even have experience. :?

I always wanted one of my face done[or a complete bust 8)]
