Modern BB in retro build (sacrilege!!) - question

Middleburns - they work ok and it’s a singlespeed so have sorted the chain line quite nicely

Are P7's not usually 113mm?

I’m just doing like for like - can’t recall when I replaced it as it would have been years ago. Was originally an LX chainset (4 bolt ugly AF) which I replaced with some L&M (soon for sale) until I got some middleburns (but didn’t realise they don’t match! Good job you don’t look at both sides of the bike at the same time

Decent ones getting scarcer - having ground out my last UN-72 and killed a Token in only two winters, I'm trying the Genetic Karyotype now.

Agree with this. UN9x UN7x are still unbeatable in terms of longevity £ for £. I've used Token too, which are not bargain basement,
and found them just about OK. I'm really put off with the cheaper ones which seem to have flooded the market.

I'm starting to think it may be time to pony up for Phil Wood, Royce or Hope once and for all.

Pretty sure I have a hope or is it middleburn ti bb in 110 size. Not sure on the shell width though, I'll need to check.

Forgot to add, its not sacrilege in my eyes to fit modern stuff on an old frame, especially bbs as they are put of sight anyway.

I've just stripped my P7 (199 ready to go back to Orange for a well deserved respray as to say it is ratty would be being kind. I'm trying to keep the finishing kit "period" ish but the BB has me scratching my head.

The BB I took out (LP27) seems to be made of lead- though it still spins pretty well. Clearly I was on a budget in my 20's when it was last replaced.

I think its time is done, and I want to replace with something lighter and that will last a bit. I could hold out for a UN71/91 etc coming up in the right size (68/110), or a unicorn Hope Ti in the right size - but the UN300 modern seems to be pretty well built and reasonably light (well, compared to what I already have). They're also cheap as chips, and nice and shiny.

Appreciate there will be a cry of "sacrilege" - but more importantly my retro friends, am I overlooking an option?
