Modern BB in retro build (sacrilege!!) - question

I've just stripped my P7 (199:cool: ready to go back to Orange for a well deserved respray as to say it is ratty would be being kind. I'm trying to keep the finishing kit "period" ish but the BB has me scratching my head.

The BB I took out (LP27) seems to be made of lead- though it still spins pretty well. Clearly I was on a budget in my 20's when it was last replaced.

I think its time is done, and I want to replace with something lighter and that will last a bit. I could hold out for a UN71/91 etc coming up in the right size (68/110), or a unicorn Hope Ti in the right size - but the UN300 modern seems to be pretty well built and reasonably light (well, compared to what I already have). They're also cheap as chips, and nice and shiny.

Appreciate there will be a cry of "sacrilege" - but more importantly my retro friends, am I overlooking an option?

Opinions welcomed

nos correct vintage b/b's are plenty available ... why not just search on out?

My main source has been (and is) ebay - not a lot going on there, though my searching skills are moderate at best. If there's somewhere better to look then I'd really appreciate the steer. Trying to avoid the "I know what I've got" £150 UN91...

Virtual pint for anyone with a link to a nos XT 68/110 BB.

Would pay good money for a period correct Hope though - although most I've seen are pretty battered around the peg holes.

Decent ones getting scarcer - having ground out my last UN-72 and killed a Token in only two winters, I'm trying the Genetic Karyotype now.

I have a 110mm Royce titanium going spare. 68mm shell with lock rings and crank bolts. Buttery smooth bearings. Only a couple of wee marks on the pin holes used to install but otherwise excellent condition. £90 plus postage.

This bike’s gonna cost me an absolute fortune lol. Can you send some pics?
