Marzi XC-700 steer-tubes: did they come in a Ti flavor ??

Howdy y'all!

I am, as I inch ever closer to completing the resto-build of an early-eighties R/M Sherpa project, getting close to attending to a Ti-frame build from scratch (nos Mongoose/Sandvik frame), and I intend on using a lovely set of gold color Marzi XC-700 forks (as long as all the replacement bits I had shipped over from Germany) go in successfully) ... save for the fact that the 1 and 1/8" steer-tube (the forks appear to be nos also) is a steel unit, thus adding untold (and unwanted) weight to an otherwise very light build. Can anyone tell me if these babies came in a Ti version, as they are (so cleverly) clamped in to the crown piece by means of two hex-bolts, and could easily be switched in a heart-beat.

I'd love to source an appropriate unit, if they did in fact surface in a Ti version from time to time, and look forward to hearing what those who know more than me (which is probably most of you), have to say.

Thank you for your input in advance, from the west coast of Canada (Justin T is crashing - but will he survive like the Teflon Don, or is he gonna burn?) ...

Years and years ago, I remember Chainreaction selling Easton AL tubes and steel. No Ti. I purchased the Easton AL
version for lightness, and remember having a bitch of a job to fit a star nut because of the increased wall thickness. Just saying.

Re:

Hmm - thank you for the in-put; but no problem with the star-nut, as the headset arrangement will necessarily be for a threaded configuration (not sure how an Al tube would stand over time, with such fine threads ... but guessing no problem, since they are on a fairly wide diameter tube).

I'd be happy with aluminum, if it'd work.

Re:

Not sure about your specific fork, but I've seen threaded ti steerers for sale every now and again. They are out there, but in the right fit, I cant say.

I hope you find one, as there's nothing worse thank knowing g your build could be better and you feel like you've cut a corner.

Re:

Of course, I suppose I could always purchase a suitable raw Ti tube, and have a machinist lathe one up for me if all else fails; but that might also be not so easily done.

The aluminium will be ok with the threads, I have a few 1 inch Alan forks with Alu steerers and the threads are fine since 1981. I have a spare Marzocchi steerer tube in steel but I have never seen mention of a Ti one in any of the workshop literature. Having one custom made wouldn't be difficult to do but will be pricey.
