If you feel something is going bad just pm a mod and ask them to review it and tell them why

if we don't then yes we are as bad as the other person
and on this whilst marins ban maybe justified..some others should be taking a good hard look at themself at the part they played

i always thought of him as Marmite man! you either loved him or hated him.

Hadn't intended to comment on this thread again, however will do so to clear up a few points.
-As mentioned in the first post the only reason for setting this up was because if I didn't somebody else would. We have done this in the past for other banned users.
-We have had more complaints about this user than any other. Most of the really unacceptable stuff from Marin Man will not have been seen by the majority. Either because the mods have removed it or because he saved his best for PM.
-The 'final straw' was not related to his '10,000th post' thread nor was it related to any incident with another user. Although there have of course been many of those. As an aside, yes it takes two to argue but generally there will be one who instigates things.
This is done now and will not be undone. Suffice to say if any of you were in my situation I'd have no doubt you will act in the same way.
Let's move on. The site is very much bigger than any individual.

-John, you and I have spoken in private about this. The only thing that bears repeating here is you have a thankless job moderating this forum. In most cases you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

-This is probably the most civil forum I'm on where discussions about religion/politics is allowed, and I believe it says a lot about the membership. It takes some real way off base comments/opinions before it deteriorates. Mention god in General at KTMtalk.com, and in less than a page the fundies and the atheists have lined up, the trebuchets loaded, and the first round of 3 day bannings has commenced.
-Putting a dozen smiley face and winking emoticons after an insult to another member does not absolve you of the act, nor make it somewhat "nice and friendlier".
-Think before you hit submit. Calling me "American" doesn't bother me. I like my American friends. There are, however, a number of "Americans" on board who may find it rude you're using their nationality as an insult to bait another member (see the great Cunningham BoTM War of 2011).
-Forum post = banter. PM = personal. There has been things said in PMs to me where if I said the same thing to anyone here in person I would fully expect to have to defend myself physically.
