First build thread on here. Picked this up from a fellow retrobiker a couple of months ago. I was at first unsure as to the quality of the frame and whether it was worth pouring my heart and soul into for the foreseeable. So a while ago I asked the question - To build or not to build? After some encouraging responses I have decided to build! build! build! - No brainer really!

I love the colour of this frame and it reminds me of the neon smiley faces and mental dance music of which I am a big fan. This, I have decided, is going to be my inspiration.

Here's some pre-strip down pictures for starters. Seems to be pretty original. I'll probably be doing away with many of the original parts in favour of bling- if you could use any of the bits then give me a shout. If there's any interest I'll start a sale thread.

Let's get this party started!

Crikey, you won't go unnoticed on that
great bombproof frame and some good period stuff on there. What kind of bling do you have in mind? Hope it won't be too tasteful ;-)
That early nineties stuff always does it for me - it's when MTBs really came into their own. Dayglo is the stuff dreams ( or, if you worked at Halfords like I did and all the dayglo was cheap tat: Nightmares) are made of.

Here's the strip down pictures.

Revealed a couple of issues. Firstly there's quite a lot of chips to the paintwork but they're all relatively small and the decals are good. Managed to score a little tin of humbrol model paint which is nearly identical. Any tips for touching up will be welcomed.

The old school BB was completely shot. The drive side looks to be cross threaded. Any tips on restoring a knackered thread will also be welcomed. What you can see in the pictures (less the BB) is about all I'll be keeping on this build. I've been accruing some tidy parts and some nice purple bling over the last couple of months. Can't wait to start putting it together!

Any Dayglo Humbrol will need a white undercoat - if you can spray it all the better.

Needs a repaint IMHO, to curb the rust if nothing else, White primer with Yellow day-glo Laquer over, if you want to match the original, It would look pretty good in just a bright matt Yellow though?
It needs a US sourced "Boutique" chainset though, Middleburn were mainly specced on UK bikes or stick with Shimano as per original specs.

Thanks for the advice. Tried touching up but it looks naff. Gonna be putting it in for a re spray/powdercoat. Been quoted around £65 for the powder coat. Heard there's a guy on here who can supply the decals? Gil isn't it?

Ok. So I've decided to go for a complete refresh of the paintwork. Talked to a powder coater but the colour scheme on offer wasn't quite mental enough and they suggested taking it to a body shop? Has anyone had experience of this before? How much should I be paying? Anyone know anywhere in the South-west?

Finally got round to building the wheels. Can't wait to see them on the bike! Never heard of the hub manufacturer (TEC) before but I thought they looked pretty blingy - not sure why the pictures are coming out the wrong way up though?
