I don't think that the later HS33 (Evo2) brakes are any more powerful than the original "Evolution" ones - they both use the same slave cylinders anyway.

The point is that the larger master cylinder gives the extra leverage - if you enlarged the slaves as well then nothing would change.

Smaller (well, narrower) master cylinder. A narrow master cylinder means more lever travel for a given movement of the brake pad, i.e. more force at the pad for a given force at the lever. It's like the difference between using a fat tyre pump to shift a lot of air, and a narrow shock pump to reach higher pressures.

Ancient HS22's >>>>>

Not that ancient, they've got the ball-and-socket slave cylinder adjustment and a quick release :-)

I think mine are 18 :-). Then again, mine aren't HS22s, they're just Hydrostops. And they don't work, although if I put fluid in them I guess they might ;-)

where do HS11 come into the story? im using a pair at the moment with ceramic rims. ive never ridden with disks so i cant compair but i really like them. also what pads should i be using with ceramic rims?

Do these levers allow you to place the levers inboard of thumbies? The standard Maguras are sufficiently thick around the clamps that thumbies have to go inboard, which never seems right.

I've had numerous bike shops tell me I've got them the wrong way round...I always invite them to swap, and I'll pay if they can get it to work

Grey or Green Frog are good for ceramic.

p.s I'm beginning to wonder if mine are older than HS22's....

How can I tell?
