I think that's the same as one of mine, the other is a lezyne which seems to fit better for middleburn lock rings.
And yes, spider orientation is important as if not right some parts foul the crank arm, but it's pretty obvious which way to fit the spider so I doubt it's that. I have had some experience with a little wobble initially but tightening it all up sorts it. The fit is quite tight as needed so sometimes it's buttoning it all up that gets the job done.
