Campag lay offs.

that's sad, my take is that they tried competing with shimano and sram and i don't think their customer base is that customer, all my road bikes have been campagnolo equipped since 1995, but the last record groupset i bought was the 10 speed that had carbon brake levers and a carbon faceplate on the rear mech, i have moved it from frame to frame up until about 2010. when the cranks went carbon i didn't like it, and why? simple really, you can polish alloy but not carbon, and carbon looks boring. as campagnolo has always had an element of being super shiny bling as well as being almost the purists choice i kind of think that the newer stuff although great quality is arguably simply not on the same par as Dura Ace.

i think if they went back to making high quality alloy record/chorus it would massively appeal to people like me that like modern steel road frames like Colnago or Cinelli. i mean shimano are dropping road caliper rim brakes, if campagnolo did an alloy record or chorus 11 or 12 speed rim brake set up i think that would sell.
Campy went a lot into the manufacturing of over expensive and finnicky products such as their wheels or their skeleton rim brakes which are no match for Dura Ace or even Ultegra double pivot rim brakes. Campy is like Ferrari lot of blingyness, very high cost of ownership and poor reliability.I always prefered Dura Ace 7700 and 7800 to Campy Record and Chorus.Campy was rarely chosen as OEM by the biggest and largest selling bike brands back in the days even by some Italian brands such as Wilier, Colnago and Coppi who most of the time figured the top of the end models with Dura Ace Group.

Looking back I think when Sram started with road groupsets and Dura Ace 7800 was new, the market started to broaden with new looks for components. It has always been a mystery to me how a brand who were responsible for some of the most beautiful components lost its way, but maybe their style just couldn't match fashion. It will have something to do as well with having been king of the hill for so long they may not have seen it coming.

It is not completely unthinkable older styles could become fashionable again, camera- hifi- and carmanufacturers have been making retro styled stuff too. But I doubt it will save Campagnolo.
Dura Ace 7800 quality is legendary, it is by far the best Dura Ace Group ever made with the 7700

They can always go full throttle with their corkscrew sideline! 😁

On their website you can have the titanium one at €260, and the gold one is a snip at just under €2000.

Its Campag! Campag! 😁

Lots of riders i knew raced on Chorus 11s. It made sense. ultra-shift was and still is better than any sti lever will ever be, that is, until you bring 12s into the question. Record 12s mechanical is junk. Shifters are clunky. Some dont work smoothly from new and they dont 'wear in'. Mechs break. The cassettes make a horrid pingy noise even when indexed well. Bearing quality in ultra-torque also seems to have gone downhill. Campagnolo went a bit overboard on the engineering of EPS wiring looms. Wireless SR13 sounds great but it's real .1% stuff and currently its being distributed to loads of niche and high end brands to build flashy show bikes we can look at but not afford. What they are good at is brand logos. I love them all. Oh, and wheels named after winds - someone dissed the wheels..are you mad? theyre excellent. Like Mavic , they had tubeless way before it was a fad. Anyway, if as a brand theyre so intent on not dropping the prestige of Campagnolo then bring us a second tier and put out some Fulcrum parts.
