What car?

That's the important question.

I sold my collection some years ago as I lost the love through a back injury and other things. I would say don't get rid of everything as I promise you you will come back to retro bikes after you have your retro/classic car or cars. I now have both and I'm happy but very poor....

Whatever you choose to do remember to enjoy what you have and get as much pleasure as you can from it... they are built to drive/drive not just look at.

al.

When I say classic car I'm not talking about an E Type or AC Cobra nor a barn find full resto that needs very deep pockets! I was thinking more along the lines on a Mk1 Golf GTI. Strangely, mid 00s Mk1 TTs have been catching my eye recently!

In that case, sod the cars, keep the bikes and just ride and tinker when you can. When they are a bit older and you get sometime you can stretch your legs. And then you can get them riding.
Enjoy getting that little bit fatter.

But with them cars, nope. They're shite old boxy things...

Now if it was a build and make the parts proper classic cars, that's different.

Blasphemy!

Re:

When you have kids all your hobbies go out the window for a while.
Cars always seem to be a bit of a money pit and for me a bit of a pain in the ass but that's cause i work on them every day!
I would say you'll prob get back into bikes again when your little one gets a first bike and then eventually he/she will be big enough to go on proper rides.
That's what i cant wait for my son is 5 soon and daughter is 3 soon so not to long before my son will be going with me and he'll get his first 'proper bike'!

Re:

I went to cars after after the kids were born and restored a nice MK2 Golf Gti 16v. Dream car bitd! Cost a fortune and found I could not afford to run the damn thing with growing children. I sold up and after a year found this site by accident and have rekindled my love for bikes!
What I have found is although I can not afford the dream cars, I can afford the bikes and parts I could never afford and dreamt of, especially thanks to this site!
I am finding I can always treat myself to something without upsetting the family budget, but when I needed tax and insurance for the Golf.....before we even got to fuel and parts.....I was met with a very large rolling pin!!
Besides, cycling is healthier!:-)

I moved away from a fast (read 'money pit') car a couple of years ago and needed another obsession, so in to Retrobikes I went...although I still have the car.
I have 3 bikes I'd never sell but the others can go I guess, I'm just being greedy.
A TT (titty) is a lot of car for the money, I had one BITD. *Get the 225 though, far better.

Exactly, I've spent months in hours building some of these and I used to enjoy riding them, but since the little human came along 12 months ago I've not really given the 'other kids' a second thought

It's all about priorities....sell the child.
Last in, first out

Sold my MG shortly after being presented with twins. Had a mountain bike and trailer for a bit. Kind of lost interest when it became riding with the tiddlers on theirs. Never been without a bike until about 5 years ago. Then when getting one for the boy for uni discovered how cheap the ones i remembered/wanted are on Ebay. And so it began. Always keep at least one, or three.

And ride them.

Or build for others - Son has an 88 saracen LE, mate has a Kula, another has my old Grisley. All my builds.

Make the most of your young child while he/she is young, but don't get rid of all the bikes - they'll never let you down.

Lovable children turn into horrible teenagers who will hate you, cause you untold worry and eat you out of house and home. Then they'll turn 20 and possibly still not leave home.

You'll need the bikes to escape your worries and stay sane.
