Losing the love - do you sell up?

Re:

This is a really interesting thread, because whether the OP intended this or not, a lot of us are now analyzing our RB 'habit'.

I've gone away from retro bikes and cycling completely in the past, in fact last summer was the first time I'd rode a bike for 10 years! The first time around 15 years ago it was VCC membership and old racing bikes of my Dad's era that I got into, as a consequence my Dad got back into it as well and we became quite a double act, organising the odd ride and going on lots of others.

Then in '97 I got back into mountain biking, now I want what I couldn't afford back then, so '96/'97/'98 is what I hanker after (and am managing to achieve to some degree)

Was really REALLY into classic mini's and the club scene with them for a while, the cycling and VCC went out of the window instantly. Things changed, a divorce and a move and never having any money meant I gave up on pretty much everything other than alcohol  Now I feel reborn again!

As others are saying, keep one, scratch your classic car itch, except that maybe the little one has changed your outlook, and realise you could well change your mind back again!

Edit: Oh, and for god's sake remember, life should be fun so do what makes you happy! All the best, Kaz

Re:

I got started riding seriously in '89 during my college years and then continued up to '98. Life kind of got in the way. The bike languished in the damp cellar at my parents house until 2010, when I had to go and clear stuff out for them to downsize and move because of their failing health. The bike came down to London with me. After a while of it sitting in my shed, I decided to fix it up and start riding it as commuting on public transport was becoming unaffordable and I needed to do something to fix my health too. Had a bad crash on it in 2012 and it was whilst I was recovering that I stumbled across Retrobike and got the biking bug bad. Just wish I'd found it and got back into it all much earlier.

That´s in fact very thro!

I was just realaising that I got back to RB becorse as I could not ride motocross anymore becorse of my bad wrists, my wife buoght me a old buget MTB in 2009 as I had mentioned her I had a MTB back in the early 90´s and did enjoy it but the life situation then did kill the hobby.
I got thrilled and upgraded it, then got a better frame and built an better bike, then got a FS bike, buoght a 29er frame and built it to a bike also (still have the 3 later). At some point I begun to try roadbikes, and buoght a old mid 90´s bike (also still have it). I also started to build working bikes from broken citybikes that I got for free and sell to earn some small money, I enjoy working on bicycles. One day last summer I was given a 1993 Specializer Hardrock Sport, was stock aside from front wheel and shifters was jamed that some WD-40 did cure, and just got hooked how nice a steel framed rigid mtb is to ride. It was a keeper, and got me hooked to RB. A thing might also be that as you get a bit older, things from youger age apear, it makes you feel younger, or does it?

What car?

That's the important question.

I sold my collection some years ago as I lost the love through a back injury and other things. I would say don't get rid of everything as I promise you you will come back to retro bikes after you have your retro/classic car or cars. I now have both and I'm happy but very poor....

Whatever you choose to do remember to enjoy what you have and get as much pleasure as you can from it... they are built to drive/drive not just look at.

al.

When I say classic car I'm not talking about an E Type or AC Cobra nor a barn find full resto that needs very deep pockets! I was thinking more along the lines on a Mk1 Golf GTI. Strangely, mid 00s Mk1 TTs have been catching my eye recently!
