Saw this in gumtree yesterday, thought it would be a nice cheap hack to replace the caldera I just sold, just picked it up now, it needs a bit of work but quite well specked with XT rear and LX front mechs.

And I'm loving the front brake pulley system.

Anybody have one of these in the pass? or know of the make?

The geezer I bought it off said it has been in the family for nearly 20 years, and he brought it down to London from Manchester.

It's an MS Racing Comp XT

As it says on the toptube, its an MS racing, which after some changes later became better known as alpinestars.

99.9% sure that stem's an Odyssey Pro Vapour. Appeared about 1988. Thought they only came in 150mm 0deg. That's the size i bought anyway!

I'm going to disagree - the Odyssey stem had a kind of spiral/eccentric pulley* rather than the little bellcrank thing. The stem on this bike is an MS one, I don't think anyone else used the same system. In fact, in my head the bellcrank stem thing is MS Racing's defining feature :-)

reckon you're right there old chap.

Can't help thinking the MS Racing one is the same stem with a different hanger roller bit welded on though. even got the same distinctive top cap and bolt.

Thanks chaps for filling me in, I thought it was a steel frame, but looks like aluminum according to the brochure, if I'm not mistaken it looks like the one in the bottom right corner.

I'm going to clean it up and service it on the weekend , not sure if I'm going to SS it or not :(

Has anybody used T-Cut to really get the grime out of all the little mark/scratches? is it safe?

Thanks for your help
