As a 'newbie' myself, I initiated a Retrobike relay by offering out a big Marin Team frame and swapping it for some nice saddles, one of which I still use.

It involved some other RB members and some dodgy car park meetings.

I hate the term 'newbie, noob, newby', often said on the Net in a derogatory way with pangs of elitism. I hope that we on this Forum never go down such a road that has given that other forum such a bad reputation.

Newbies are good bring them on I say. Fresh stuff particularly in the for sale section lets people who truly appreciate it (us 8) ) get their hands on it.

I along with others, am also a member on a few other forums and often direct people towards Retrobike for them to peddle their wares. I have also done the same with a few items that I have come across on ebay

Without a steady flow of new members posting in the for sale section then it inevitably becomes stagnant with many items just doing the rounds between members. I currently own some parts which I have sold and repurchased on here, twice !! . I don't care if a so called newbie only posts a couple of times and then disappears into the sunset just as long as I can my hands on 'that part.' In these circumstances though Paypal Gift is simply not an option and would advise everyone to remember buyer beware.

As for newbies asking questions many being SFQ's (i.e. Stooopid ****ing Questions) . I've got no problem with that either, got no problem in sharing my knowledge (limited as it is) as I call it fun and quite relaxing.

When I joined here I became a newbie, but compared to other forums I was given a warm welcome. My Q's were answered and advice given. I became hooked. I joined 2 years ago and I'm still a newbie, still aint got a clue and been known to ask a few SFQ's myself

MarinMan was (almost certainly) refering to the fact that when you join...your initial first few postings indicate that you are a 'newbie' .
ie, it actually states newbie under your name.

And I have also noticed an increase in the amount of (literal) newcomers selling items on here.

Good on em too! The more the merrier! Retrobikers unite!

Caveat emptor

I have that sign above my door

And yes,I did not refer to people as newbies myself,it is johns term for new joiners on his site

And yes bring em on,the more the merrier, just a little concerned about buying from people I have never spoken to and not likely to meet and who dissapear after a week of joining thats all,but you have cleared that up for me and very helpful you have all been :D

And with refference to the 4000 new members "a hearty welcome to all 50 that are active still" :D happy christmas :xmas-cool:

You clearly did. I might also suggest that a man such as yourself who is so keen to mention his superior level of education ought to at least have a stab at correct punctuation.

THANKS JOHN!

Always a pleasure, never a chore with you two esteemed members.

I was a 'newbie' once. 3 years 9 months later :D
My first purchase via the site didn't arrive. Lost in the post. Got my money back from the post office.

the new people are the future of the site. I like every body on this site

Never pay gift always for the purchase of good and use this:

http://www.tutv.co.uk/fresh/bitsandpieces/paypalcost.php

to calculate the fees and just add them on over the top.

Gifting is not recommended for a reason there are good guys on here and all my purchases through here have been good, but it's much easier to use this. In any case if you gift someone and fees are involved you have to pay anyway so you might just as well use 'goods' and pay but get the protection.

Carl.
