Like... HELP ME! Thumbshifter problem

OK, I think I have found the problem... lubing the inners worked a bit but not much.

But just before hitting the showers with a :( face, I was thinking: Hey, when I showed the bike here there was this dude Carsten who adviced me to cross the front/rear cable inside... now what if the inner of the front cable is "running over" the inner for the rear cable. That would end up with sort of a "spring-tension" problem as I will never be able to get the rear cable tight enough.

So I then just disconnected the front gearcable from the mech and reconnected the rear cable very tight onto the rear mech. Tried it and it would shift as if nothing was the problem! So, I pulled out the inner for the front cable and pulled it in again, but now looking to route it beneath the rear-cable... pulled it out again with my magic-paperclip-cable-grab-thingie and TADA! problem solved!

So that ended up me getting into the shower with a :D 8) face instead hehehe...

Thanx for all the help guys! Really happy with this and now front and rear works! Only problem I have now is that the sold me 9-speed chainrings and told me that would work... yeah, it works but my chain is rattling against the front biggest chainring when I'm in the middle and lower 3 rear cogs. So I guess this is a chainring spacer (and of course narrow/supernarrow chain) issue?

NO, sounds like a bottom bracket axle that's too short. Older chaisnets were mounted further away from the BB, before small Q distance was fashionable.

Well, I've checked the BB length and spacing and that's excactly what's in the KLEIN manual so that shouldn't be the problem...

Tried a 9-speed chain and the problem is just about gone... also it shifts 100 better acros the rear cogs than with the original chain. Go figure?

Cool, I was just thinking about that...

Since it's a KLEIN there is a whole teflon outer running through the tubes. And I just looked at the WD-40 and thought "Hmmm... maybe spray that in".

Will try that and see if anything improves. Thanx for the help so far (of course I will make a note here if that solved it).

you shouldn't run the liners all the way through the frame as they cause cable drag. only put short pieces (10cm max.) over the inner cables where they exit the frame so that they dont cut into the frame. 2-3cm outside of the frame and the rest inside of the frame. they will stay in place, dont worry.

use the long liners only to mount new cables and then pull them out and mount the short liners. before you pull the old cable remove the short liners and push the long liner over the cable until it sticks out at the entry hole. it helps to grab both inner cable and liner and then pull the inner cable to guide the liner through the entry hole. sounds more complicated than it is... have a Grolsch first and relax ;)
